Best Batsmen in IPL History


The cash-rich league has been hub for entertainment, glamour and money. Indian Premier League is all set to start from 19th September but without fans. Though it might have dampened the players’ enthusiasm but one has to bend in front of the pandemic. However, the fans would budge to watch the game from their homes.

On the other hand, the league has seen scoring runs left, right and front. There have been batsmen, all-rounders and other players who have shot into fame with their batting performances. Here are the top 5 batsmen in IPL who have featured regularly in Indian Premier League.


#5) David Warner


The left-handed Aussie international is one of the deadliest batsmen in IPL apart from being the same in the world cricket. He is one of the players who has given a different dimension to the cash rich league; He has played for two teams till now, being Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Apart from winning the IPL title in 2016, he has three Orange Caps to his name in IPL. He won the Orange cap on three various occasion, 2015,2017 and 2019. David Warner has 4706 runs in 126 games despite being suspended in 2018 for ball-tampering.


#4) Rohit Sharma


The vice-captain of the Indian national team, Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in Indian Premier League with four titles to his name. The player is known as “Hitman” for his hitting capabilities in the game. After Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina in IPL, Rohit Sharma is the next best Indian batsman. In 188 games for different sides like Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, he has 4898 runs with one century and 36 half-centuries.

Being technically sound batsmen and offering flexibility to the team, Rohit Sharma is a great threat to the opposition. His trademark pull shot is a great treat to watch in the stadium. MI will hope the player would repeat the same from one of the top 5 batsmen in IPL.


#3) Chris Gayle


The West Indian talisman and a left-handed opener, Chris Gayle is one of the fearful batsmen for the shortest format of the game. The player has never missed an edition of IPl despite being unsold in auctions. The player has opened for the sides he played and he is highly regarded player when it comes to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s history.

He has 4480+ runs in 125 games with six centuries, which is the most for a batsmen in IPL. he also ha the highest score in IPl of 175 when he ran riot against Pune Warriors at Chinnaswamy. Moving to the end of his career, Chris Gayle will look to add an IPL to his name apart from being one of the Top 5 batsmen in IPL.


#2) Suresh Raina


Known as Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina is one of the most prolific No 3 batsmen that the world has seen. Since his debut, Suresh Raina has played for Chennai Super Kings and played a crucial role in CSK’s title run in 2009, 2011and 2018.

Suresh Raina was also appointed as the skipper of Gujarat Lions when Chennai Super Kings was suspended because of altercations. He has 5368 runs in 193 games and became the first ever player in IPl to score 5000 runs. Though he will not be featuring in IPL 2020, he is one of the top 5 batsmen in IPL.


#1) Virat Kohli


The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, is a front-runner in the list of Top 5 Batsmen in IPL. One of the best batsmen across all the formats has proved his worth by his consistent performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though he has not won the IPL, he has carried the team all alone on his shoulders.

Virat Kohli has scored 5412 runs in 177 IPL games averaging 37.84 runs per game. He has five tons (most for the captain) and 36 fifties to his name. Virat Kohli’s best season came in 2016 when he amassed 976 runs in 16 games with four centuries to his name.
