In the recently concluded Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians emerged as the winners whereas the first-time finalists, Delhi Capitals ended up as the runners-up. The difference between the sides was the bowling strike rates that affected the team’s batting performance. Trent Boult struck the wicket on the first ball whereas Mumbai Indians had a solid start to their chase.
Similarly, there have been games in the Indian Premier League that changed its due course with a superior strike rate of bowlers. In the list, Suresh Raina has the highest strike rate of 1.5 when he picked two wickets against Rajasthan Royals in 2011. The player in his three-ball spell dismantled the Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 1.5.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, the recent veteran player to retire, is second on the list with a strike rate of 1.66 in a game against Delhi Daredevils. The player achieved the feat back in 2008 after he gave just six runs in five deliveries and claimed three wickets in five balls at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
In a must-win game for Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, they faced Rajasthan Royals in a rain-affected game. RCB was off to a great start with AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli scoring 23 from seven deliveries. However, Shreyas Gopal picked three wickets in a row of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Marcus Stoinis in a single over. Though the match was abandoned in the end due to rain, Shreyas Gopal registered his name in the list of top five bowlers to have the best strike rate in an innings.
In a match against Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored a humongous total of 248 with AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli scoring a quickfire century at the fag end of the innings from nowhere. In the same game, the bowling department too clicked for Royal Challengers Bangalore with a part-time spinner taking two wickets in just four balls and wrapped up the game. The humongous victory propelled RCB towards a superior run rate in the Indian Premier League 2016.
Here is the list of the top five bowlers who have superior strike rate throughout the innings in the Indian Premier League spanning 13 editions:
