One of the most entertaining and dominating teams in the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders has been the home for some star players and young prodigies. The team started the cash-rich league in a great fashion with Brendon McCullum scoring 158 and set great proceedings to the league. The team though struggled in the initial years, they won the title twice in the span of 2 years.

#5) Manish Pandey

One of the best players from the 2008 U-19 batch, Manish Pandey started his IPL career alongside Virat Kohli at RCB. Despite the poor season in 2008, he went on to become the first Indian player to score a century in 2009. He also joined Kolkata Knight Riders with Robin Uthappa in 2014.

In KKR’s title-winning season, Manish Pandey played a crucial role with the bat as he scored 401 runs. In the finals of 2014, all eyes were on big guns but Manish Pandey led KKR to the title with his brilliant 94. He went on to contribute to Kolkata Knight Riders for two more seasons and helped KKR to reach the tournament’s advanced stages every season. The player joined SRH in 2018 but will remain as one of the top five players for KKR.

 

#4) Piyush Chawla

One of the workhorse and warhorse of modern-day cricket, Piyush Chawla was a regular for the Kolkata outfit under multiple captains. He is one of the four bowlers in the tournament’s history to pick-up 150+ wickets. Piyush Chawla was bought by KKR in a 2014 auction who played an important role in KKR’s title triumph.

Piyush Chawal contributed to KKR’s success in every season with a minimum of 10 wickets. He was the player that the teams used to look out for on the field. The player will go down as one of the top five players for KKR in its history.

 

#3) Robin Uthappa

One of the most sought Indian players in the 2014 auction, Robin Uthappa played a crucial role in KKR’s 2014 campaign. Along with Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa forged records and broke records. In his first season with the Kolkata outfit, Robin Uthappa scored 660 runs at a healthy average of 44. He also won the glorious orange cap that season and capped off the tournament with a trophy. His versatility was the best thing that helped Kolkata Knight Riders to alter his batting position when Chris Lynn arrived.

Uthappa holds the record for most 40+ scores in an IPL season. He is one of the top five players to have played for Kolkata Knight Riders.

 

#2) Sunil Narine

With the advent of the shortest format of the game, the term “mystery spinner” also was coined. There were two players back then who were termed as mystery spinners. One was Ajantha Mendis and the other one is Sunil Narine. Sunil Narine not only bamboozled his opposition with the spin but also pinched the opposition with pinch-hitting abilities.

Since his buy, in IPL 2012, Sunil Narine has remained as a mainstay for Kolkata Knight Riders In the first three seasons, Sunil Narine bagged 24,22 and 21 wickets respectively. Though his bowling style change didn’t help the cause for the player, he is able to control the opposition in bowling with an economy rate below 7. He is one of the top 5 players who have played for KKR.

 

#1) Gautam Gambhir

Though Sourav Ganguly is known as Prince of Kolkata, it was Gautam Gambhir who won the title for Kolkata Knight Riders. After featuring three successive years for Delhi Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir was bought by KKR management in a 2011 Auction which turned things around for ailing KKR. In the new era for KKR, Gautam Gambhir won two titles along with scoring a minimum of 300 runs every season.

He formed a formidable partnership with Robin Uthappa and experimented with Sunil Narine as a pinch-hitting opener. His contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders is unmatchable and is one of the top 5 players for KKR in its history.
