Best Players of KXIP

One of the most underperforming sides in the Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab are guilty of not playing consistently despite having a star-studded owner and star-studded batting line-up. The team’s best finish came in 2014 when they ended runners-up at M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Kolkata Knight Riders. In that season, Wriddhiman Saha, Glen Maxwell and David Miller were threatening to the opposition but the team failed to put their hands on the trophy because of Manish Pandey’s masterclass.

In recent times too, the team has shown a lot of promises with the players like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle in their ranks apart from Glen Maxwell and Mohammed Shami. However, the inconsistency has remained the same which has derailed the team’s plan to win the trophy.

Here are the top five players for Kings XI Punjab who have played for the badge and carried the team on their shoulders in the past:

#5) Piyush Chawla

Known for his stints with Kolkata Knight Riders, where he played a big role in two titles, Piyush Chawla is one of the top five players for Kings XI Punjab too. He has been the standout leg-break bowler for Kings XI Punjab in the past and has accounted for 84 wickets.

He is also the most capped player for the team who has bowled at an economy of 7.52 runs per over. Piyush Chawla has also played some cameos for his side where he took his team over the winning line in 2010.

#4) Sandeep Sharma

One of the loyal servants of Kings XI Punjab and a great swing bowler for his side, Sandeep Sharma is known for taking the wickets in the powerplay overs. Though he leaks runs in the death overs, he has scalped the likes of Virat Kohli consistently.

Playing for Kings XI Punjab, Sandeep Sharma has taken 71 wickets with an economy below 8 runs per over. He is one of the top five players to have played for Kings XI Punjab in the past.

#3) David Miller

The left-handed Protean international also had a great season in 2014 along with Glen Maxwell and took the side to finals with his performances in both fielding and batting. The middle-order batsman was an explosive player who had the ability to take the game away from the opposition in a blink of an eye.

Playing for KXIP, David Miller is the second-highest scorer for the Kings XI Punjab after Shaun Marsh. He has 1850 runs for his team at an average of 34.25 and a strike rate of 138.78.

#2) Glenn Maxwell

The maverick Australian all-rounder known for his all-around abilities, Glenn Maxwell is one of the top five players who have ever played for the Punjab outfit. He enjoyed a great season in 2014 where he not only scored runs but carried his team on his shoulders to the finals.

He also has 10 wickets to his name apart from 1186 runs in the Indian Premier League at an astonishing strike rate of 167.27.

#1) KL Rahul

The Karnataka lad had a great 2016 season along with Royal Challengers Bangalore but an injury and downturn in his form made the team let him go to the auction pool. Preity Zinta signed the player for a whopping sum of 11.5 crores making him the joint costliest player in the mega auction. Since then, there is no look-back from the right-handed batsman. His performances are so impressive that he is leading the team in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League.

During his stint with Kings XI Punjab, KL Rahul has won one orange cap apart from leading the pack to win the second. He is one of the top five players for KXIP who also has the record of fastest fifty in IPL.
