To complete a run trust is necessary between the two batsmen at the crease. Some batsmen have so much experience and trust amongst them such that they coordinate only with their eyes and run blindly to the call of their partner putting their heads down.

At the biggest stages like IPL run out can change the course of the game. Although it’s a misery for batsman some run-outs might even turn out to be a comedy to the audience. Here are the top 5 run outs in IPL’s history.


#5) Umesh Yadav (RCB vs CSK in Year 2018)


In the match against Bangalore, CSK was 175/4 with Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni at the crease. Corey Anderson bowled to Rayudu which he hits it to square leg. Yadav who was stationed there had to run a bit and dived for the ball.

He picked it up with one hand and with one stump to aim at Umesh Yadav was spot on using his rocket arm. This run-out changed the momentum of the game toward RCB.


#4) Ravindra Jadeja (GL vs MI in Year 2014)

It’s no surprise to see his name in this list. In the match against Gujarat Lions, Mumbai needed 154 runs to win from 20 over’s. It all came down to the last ball where Lasith Malinga had to score 1 run to seal the victory for MI. Irfan Pathan bowled a Yorker onto the pads of Malinga which he missed.

The ball went straight to Ravindra Jadeja who was stationed at the point. With his strong arms, Jadeja hits the bull’s eye and runs out Krunal Pandya to bring the match to a tie.


#3) Ravichandran Ashwin (KXIP vs RR in Year 2019)


This was one of the most controversial run out’s in the history of IPL. Ashwin ran out Butler at the nonstriker’s end before bowling his delivery. He appealed to the umpire which eventually went to the 3rd umpire and was finally declared out. We could see Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Butler in an animated discussion after the decision was made.

Despite Ashwin was right according to the rules he was greatly criticized by the cricketing fans from all around the world because of his sportsman spirit.


#2) Amit Mishra (RR vs SRH in Year 2014)


In the match against Rajasthan Royals, SRH’s batting had tumbled and Amit Mishra was batting at number 9 with Irfan Pathan at the non-striker’s end. In a desire to increase the score Mishra tried to hit a ball bowled by James Faulkner which he eventually missed and the ball landed in the keeper’s gloves. Sanju Samson with the big gloves had a throw at the stumps while Mishra was trying to sneak a bye which was missed and was collected by Faulkner. By that time Mishra was running back to the crease.

James Faulkner collected the ball and threw at the stumps which were missed again. Amit in frustration was looking at his partner rather than reaching back to the crease safely. Samson utilized this situation and by his brilliant presence of mind hit the stumps this time and ended the comedy of errors.


#1) Dwayne Bravo (CSK vs RCB in Year 2015)


This Jamaican is an entertainment box that entertains the fans by his sheer cricketing skills on the field as well as off the field. This run-out was an example of the true athleticism of Dwayne Bravo. RCB was going well by scoring 93 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the 13th over. In the 13th over Bravo bowled a Yorker onto the stumps to king Kohli who dug it out to hit it straight into Bravo’s hands.

Bravo as clever as ever, with his sheer presence of mind saw Virat Kohli on the front foot had come out of the crease. On his follow-through, he plucked the ball out of thin air and took a shy at the stumps. Although Virat dived back to reach the crease, he got out by falling short inches away from the crease.
