IPL has never failed to bring the adrenaline rush because of the close encounters that always gets decided in the penultimate over of the match. High scoring games have most of the time ended in a nail-biting finish. The highest run chase in a game is always created adventure for spectators.

#5 Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals (Year 2014)


Mumbai Indians were on the verge of qualifying in 2014. MI needed to score 190 runs in 14.3 over’s to qualify for the playoffs. Corey Anderson and Ambati Rayudu with their unbelievable performances brought MI to 189 in 14.3 over’s. Now MI needed to score a boundary or a six to get qualified with all those net run rate dramas calculated to the third decimal.

Aditya Tare walks out to bat and James Faulkner bowls a Yorker that goes wrong on the leg stump, small boundary and Aditya Tare smashes it for a six. It was a picture for ages. MI won by 5 wickets with 32 balls to spare. This remains as one of the best run chases in the history of IPL.

#4 Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Year 2012)


There is never short of runs when playing at the batting paradise Chinnaswamy. It never failed to amaze the crowd on even this occasion. RCB scored 205/8 in the first innings. It was a steady start for CSK in the early part of the innings. The ever consistent Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni accelerated the innings and helped CSK come close to the target.

CSK needed 43 runs in the last 2 over’s with Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni went. It was a gamble by Virat Kohli to bring himself to bowl in the 19th over. Albie Morkel hammered 28 runs of Kohli’s over and Ravindra Jadeja won the game for CSK by hitting a last-ball boundary.

#3 Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Year 2015)


David Warner scored a blistering knock of 44 of just 23 balls to take SRH to a total of 205/5 in 20 over’s. Despite losing Virendra Sehwag early in the innings Kings XI Punjab never failed to keep up with the required run rate.

Wriddhiman Saha and Manan Vohra formed a formidable duo and scored 54 and 47 runs respectively to take Punjab to 125/3 in just 9.1 over’s. With Glenn Maxwell, David Miller and George Bailey yet to come it was all easy for Punjab from then on. Bailey finished the game with 10 balls to spare.

#2 Delhi Daredevils vs Gujarat Lions (Year 2017)


The second-highest run chase in IPL’s history came from Delhi when they chased down a mammoth total of 209 against the Gujarat Lions. Delhi lost their captain Karun Nair early in the chase. But then came Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant who is regarded as one of the consistent young talents going around in IPL to change the course of the game.

Pant smashed 97 runs of just 43 balls and Samson supported Pant by building a steady inning with him and ended up scoring 61 of 31 balls. Delhi Capitals won the match with 7 wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare.

#1 Rajasthan Royals vs Deccan Chargers (Year 2008)


Deccan Chargers had put up a total of 214/5 against the Rajasthan Royals in the opening edition of the IPL. Rajasthan Royals chased down this mammoth total with 3 wickets to spare in 19.5 over’s. They were the first team to chase down a target of over 200 in the IPL. That was DC’s third consecutive loss.

Andrew Symonds who had scored a ton in that match was given the last over to bowl where he failed to contain the runs. RR needed 17 runs from the last over, where the legendary bowler Shane Warne showed his skills with the bat as well by scoring 2 sixes and a four in three consecutive deliveries. Yusuf Pathan was awarded the man of the match for scoring 61 runs off just 28 balls.
