Indian Premier League – It is not only a word. But, it is an emotion for many. The cash-rich league is not only known for its glamour and money but also because of high-scoring games. There are many games in which the low totals being defended or it being a tricky chase but there are games that have entertained the fans because of its high scoring nature.

Here are the top 5 team scores scored in IPL.


#5) Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab (Year 2008)


On April 19, 2008, this was only the second match of the initial edition and the first-ever match of the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. In this match, Michael Hussey scored the fastest century in Twenty20 cricket during the time to power Chennai to 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali.

It was near bloodbath at the PCA Stadium, as Hussey hit as many as 10 sixes and 7 boundaries in his blazing victorious 116 off just 54 balls. Hussey’s century was the second of the tournament by Brendon McCullum’s 158 in the opening match in Bangalore. Punjab managed to score 207/4 as Chennai achieved a 33-run victory.



#4) Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab (Year 2018)


Kolkata Knight Riders shattered limits at will alongside Kings XI Punjab to gather a total of 245/6, the highest score at the Holkar Stadium in Indore and the fourth-highest total in IPL history on May 12, 2018. Sunil Narine had scored a massive run of 75 by 36 balls.

Narine smashed Punjab’s poise early on while Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell deflated them in the middle and death overs. During the match, few hits went to the third tier and twice the umpires had to put back the lost balls. Punjab fought back well to score 214/8 as KKR won by 31 runs.



#3) Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals (Year 2010)


On April 3, 2010, Murali Vijay ripped apart the Rajasthan Royals bowling line by scoring 127 off 56 balls to aid Chennai Super Kings place a grand total of 246/5 at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. During the time, the team itself had the highest team total in IPL and they bettered their own 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab in 2008.

After Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum’s 157, Vijay’s 127 had the second-highest individual score in IPL and he became only the third Indian to score an IPL century after Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan.



#2) Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Lions (Year 2016)


On May 14, 2016, RCB scored a substantial total of 248/3, batting first against Gujarat Lions, courtesy of AB de Villiers’s 129 not out and an equally attractive 109 by Virat Kohli at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Lions gave in for a skimpy total of 104 all out in 18.4 overs, crashing to a 144-run defeat.

The Kohli-De Villiers combo scored 229 runs in just 16 overs in their partnership and Kohli became the first-ever player in the history of the IPL to score two centuries against the same opponents in one edition of the league, with that he got his third hundred in a single edition of IPL, hit a brilliant 109 off 55 balls, with the help of five fours and eight sixes.


#1) Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Pune Warriors (Year 2013)


We all know that the Bengaluru team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, have never had any luck with the trophy in the Indian Premier, but they have secured the top two highest team totals ever in the history of IPL. It is the game when Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 175, RCB shattered the wadding out of the Pune Warriors on the day of April 23, 2013, by securing an enormous 263/5 at the Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Gayle’s strutting knock was made with 17 sixes and 13 fours with just 66 deliveries. Gayle scored the fastest and the highest-ever individual score in a T20 game with just 30 balls, surpassing Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum, who had scored 158 off 73 balls against RCB at the same venue. And chasing a world record target of 264 in the T20, Pune were able to get 133 for nine in the fixed 20 overs, making the way for RCB to post the biggest IPL victory in terms of runs (130).
