Chirag Shetty says he would like to meet Spanish tennis legend.
India’s rising badminton star Chirag Shetty says he would like to meet Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal at the Olympic Games if he gets a chance.
Speaking to The Times of India, Shetty, who is 22 years old and still awaiting confirmation about the qualifications for the Olympics, says, “I am a very big fan (of Rafael Nadal). It will be a very big fan boy moment.
I don’t know what I will tell him.” Shetty and doubles partner Satiwiksairaj Rankireddy are awaiting the Olympic qualifications that officially end on April 30. “We are sticking to the basics and whatever works well for us.
The ultimate goal is to win a medal at the Olympics. We have almost qualified. You still can’t say. I am positively nervous.” Shetty says he is going on with his usual training schedule. “I have a session in the morning three times a week, then gym and sometimes we run after that.
We usually have everything in the evening, but on Wednesdays there is an off. There are four sessions in the evening, so we hit the gym four times and go running three times. On certain days we follow up the gym session with a run.” Nadal is ranked No. 2 in the world and has won 19 Grand Slam singles titles in his career.
