Longest Sixes in IPL
Indian Premier League is nothing but a galore of sixes, fours, records, and wickets. There have many players in the history of the tournament who have scored centuries and half-centuries for fun. In these innings which are entertaining, one thing is common. That is the Sixes. The players have scored Sixes and sent the ball out of the park several times.
Here are the top five longest Sixes scored in the Indian Premier League:
#5) Ben Cutting vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016) – 117 meters
In the finals of the 2016 edition, Ben Cutting scored one of the longest Sixes in IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Ben Cutting was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad because of his hard-hitting batting and handy bowling which played a huge role in the finals.
The veteran Shane Watson bowled a full-toss in the final over of the first innings which was pummeled by Ben Cutting to the deep square leg region. The ball read 117 meters which is the longest in any finals of the tournament.
#4) Yuvraj Singh against Chennai Super Kings (2009) – 119 meters
A nightmare to his opposition since his debut, Yuvraj Singh is one of the cleanest hitters of the ball in any format of the game. In the second season of Indian Premier League, Yuvraj Singh scored one of the longest Sixes in IPL history against Chennai Super Kings. A full-length delivery was bowled to the pad’s of Yuvraj Singh by Albie Morkel.
The player was waiting for a perfect opportunity to lay the siege on bowlers and he sent the loose ball out of the park which read 118 meters.
#3) Robin Uthappa against Mumbai Indians (2010) – 120 meters
One of the initial cricketers to master the play of shuffle and paddle shots, Robin Uthappa is a great addition and a match-winner for any side. He holds the record of scoring one of the longest Sixes in the Indian Premier League and it came against Chennai Super Kings.
Playing for his home-based franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Robin Uthappa adjudged Dwayne Bravo‘s length delivery and smashed it in the long-on direction. The ball not only went for a maximum but also got lost in Cubbon Park. The six is still one of the longest sixes in IPL apart from being the longest in 2010.
#2) Adam Gilchrist against Royal Challengers Bangalore (2011) – 122 meters
One of the best wicket-keeper batsmen of all time, Adam Gilchrist is known for clean-striking of the ball. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the left-handed batsman scored a humongous six against South African pacer, Charles Langeveldt.
Charles Langeveldt tried a variation of the slower ball against the KXIP skipper which was well-read by Gilly. He deposited the ball over the mid-wicket region, reading 122 meters.
#1) Albie Morkel vs Deccan Chargers (2008) – 125 meters
One of the all-time fan favorites, Albie Morkel was one of the destructive fast-bowling all-rounders in the history of the cash-rich tournament. His swashbuckling innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore is still in front of the fans’ eyes. He has the record hitting the longest six in the Indian Premier League.
In the game against now defunct, Deccan Chargers, Albie Morkel deposited in the stands, striking it over the mid-off region. He struck a gigantic six against Pragyan Ojha’s delivery which was flighted. The ball traveled 125 meters at Chepauk Stadium. The ball went out of the park and the umpires had to call for a new one.
