When we look back at the tournament’s rich history, there are a few moments that really stood out. By attempting to rank those moments, let us try to identify the single greatest moment in the history of IPL.

 

#5) AB-Kohli 229 Run Partnership Against Gujarat Lions

This exacting IPL season will be kept in mind for the way Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers batted. RCB lost the toss and were sent to bat first. It was not very late when RCB lost the wicket of Chris Gayle. But that did not prevent them from anything as de Villiers walked out to bat. All along from the very first ball, he looked to be in an aggressive mood.

Both batsmen scored gleaming centuries in a 229 run partnership. It was showering fours and sixes at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as they both hit a total of 15 fours and 20 sixes. Though Kohli was dismissed in the final over, the damage had already been made. RCB finished with an immense total of 248/3.

This partnership gains the fifth position in this IPL Magic Moments list.

 

#4) Chris Lynn’s Impressive Catch

Thanks to a first-class beginning provided by their top order, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were cruising along. With AB de Villiers on strike, they still had a few runs to get in the final over, This is when the situation turned roughly for RCB.

When AB de Villiers tried to slog the ball for a six, Chris Lynn took an extremely impressive catch to send him away. That catch became a turning point in the game, and KKR won the match.

This awesome catch gains the fourth position in this IPL Magic Moments list.

 

#3) The Very First IPL Final

Even though it is certain that the first-ever final of the IPL is considered one among the greatest moments in IPL history, the reasons here is due to the teams involved in the finals.

It was the time when, right from the start of the tournament, the Chennai Super Kings were considered everyone’s favorites. On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals looked so weak that every cricket analyst expected that they (RR) will finish at the bottom.

Therefore, it was the ultimate David vs. Goliath matchup, when these two teams clashed. Yusuf Pathan scored 56 runs from 39 balls and became the star for the Rajasthan Royals. Shane Warne by hitting a boundary took RR over the line and finished the match. The ultimate underdogs had lifted their first-ever trophy in the IPL.

Of-course this first final comes at number three in this IPL Magic Moments list.

 

#2) CSK’s Victorious Return

After being banned for two years from participating in the IPL, the fans highly appreciated the Chennai Super Kings return. The players too seemed emotional and it was a touching moment for all those that were involved.

The Super Kings were on a roll and looked unstoppable throughout the tournament. By defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Super Kings claimed the IPL title for their third time. With all the emotions involved, this moment will ever be known as one of the greatest moments in the history of IPL.

This enormous CSK win comes at number two in this IPL Magic Moments list.

 

#1) Chris Gayle’s 175

Pune Warriors, after they won the toss and choose to field first, realized their mistake. Chris Gayle seemed to be in brilliant form as he hammered bowlers to all parts of the ground. Gayle then achieved the fastest century in T20 cricket of just 30 balls.

Gayle completed on a massive 175 from 66 balls. In which he hit 13 fours and 17 sixes which made his team post 263/5, the highest total in the history of IPL.

Chris Gayle unaccompanied scored 175 all by himself when a good number of teams struggle to score 175 in an inning. By giving RCB the win by 130 runs, the Pune Warriors finished their innings at 133/9 in 20 overs.
