Most Fours in IPL Innings
Indian Premier League is known for a plethora of entertainment. The entertainment comes through batsmen who play elegant shots, bowlers with their toe-crushing yorkers, and fielders with their superman efforts on the surface. Among batsmen, there are two types. One who treats the bowlers harshly by hitting them for long sixes and another type is that who play elegantly and kill the bowler with the class.
The word “class” is associated with textbook shots and the balls moving on the surface and not in the air. The players have been able to score a century without taking any risk. Then there are players like AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli who possess the ability to score runs using both routes.
The fours are an integral part of any innings despite it yielding two runs less than a sixer. However, fours are less risky compared to the six and few batsmen require one four at the start of their innings to get going. And there are players who have scored more than ten fours in an inning on their way to a century. The list starts with AB de Villiers who scored 19 boundaries against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. Despite RCB lost their star batsman, Chris Gayle, early in the innings, Mr 360 made for it with his unbeaten 133. Eventually, Royal Challengers Bangalore went on to win the match after a carnage.
Once termed as the player for the future, Paul Valthaty was the first player to score 19 fours in an innings against Chennai Super Kings in the past. As his strike rate is less compared to that of ABD, he is ranked second on the list. He decimated the opposition with his 120 from 63 deliveries in 2011. The most classy batsman in the Indian Premier League and the vice-captain of the Indian National Team, Ajinkya Rahane stands fourth in the list with 16 fours in a single inning. At Sawai Mansingh Stadium in a game against Kings XI Punjab, Rahane led his team front to a decent total. The right-handed batsman from Mumbai scored 98 from 66 deliveries at a strike rate of 148.48.
The list is dominated by Indians as they are known for proper cricketing shots. The foreigners in the top 10 are four and South Africans feature twice in the list. Also, the list features one Australian (Glen Maxwell) and the Englishman (Michael Lumb) in the top 5.
Here is the list of players who have scored the maximum number of boundaries in a single inning:
