Known as Proteas, South Africa national cricket team are the perennial underachievers in the ICC Tournaments. Despite being a heavily talented and all-round team, South Africa has struggled to get their run going in the tournament. They are also known as ‘Chokers’ because of their inability to win the big games in ICC tournaments.
South Africa was one of the initial countries to play cricket. South Africa played their first-ever test cricket against England in South Africa in the later stages of the 19th century. In order to gain the expertise, the South African team regularly played against the likes of England, Australia and New Zealand. However, they were put back in their progress because of their apartheid policy and they went back quite heavily.
The ban was eventually lifted in 1991 and faced teams like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the first time. Also, South Africa is the unluckiest team when it comes to the Duckworth Lewis as they were robbed of the victories from the deserving games. South Africa even reached the top of all the formats but is yet to win an ICC tournament.

The former South African is ably supported by the former Indian Ranji cricket player, Amol Mazumdar as a batting coach. The bowling department is looked after by Vincent Alexander Barnes. The team which has produced the best fielders in international cricket has Justin Lee Ontong as their fielding coach.
Support Staff: Craig Govender has been a great addition to the South African National team support staff. Craig Govender has served South African cricket for seven years and is still going strong. The fitness development of the players is looked after by the likes of Gregory Allen King, former right handed South African batsman.
Team Jersey: The Proteas have worn multiple shades of green and yellow along with orange tinge in the limited-overs format. Currently, they have a green jersey with yellow patches on the sides. On the other hand, they have also worn the pink jersey in the past to promote awareness regarding breast cancer in South Africa.
